Renew M2M Machine Credentials

Renew M2M Machine Credentials

Machine credentials are valid for two years from the date of creation. To continue reporting Single Touch Payroll (STP), you must renew your Machine-to-Machine (M2M) credential before it expires.

If your credential expires, STP reporting will fail and the ATO may apply penalties.

Follow the steps below to check your expiry date, renew your credential, and relink it to JobBag.

1. Check the Expiry Date of Your Existing Machine Credential

If your credential is still several months away from expiry, set a reminder for one month before the expiry date. You may also receive an email from the ATO advising that your credential is due for renewal.

Steps:

  1. Log in to ATO Access Manager / Authorisation Manager

    https://authorisationmanager.gov.au/#/login

Select View or manage authorisations, machine credentials and cloud software notifications

    Select your Entity

    Go to Manage credentials

    • You will see the list of active and expired machine credentials
    • Check the expiry date of your current credential

2. Create Machine Credential

Follow the on-screen instructions in ATO Authorisation Manager to create your M2M certificate.

A new key store file (usually a .json file) will be generated for you to download.

Keep this file somewhere secure—you’ll need it for JobBag.

Software required

Information alert: Before you can create a machine credential, you must have the required software installed on your machine. Visit Machine credential downloads and follow the instructions to install the software on this machine.

Note: only Chrome and Firefox browsers can be used to create and download machine credentials

Once your new credential is created, you must link it to JobBag to resume STP reporting.

Navigate to: Payroll menu > Step 4: Single Touch Payroll (SBR)> Edit Settings

1. Open the Single Touch Payroll window and edit settings

  1. Delete existing keystore directory information
  2. Click on Keystore File - Navigate to the location where the new machine credential (keystore.xml) was installed on your computer

3. Select Alias - Select the new alias/ machine credential

4. Check organisation name, ABN, contact etc are all correct

Expired Credential Warning in JobBag

If your M2M credential has already expired, JobBag may display an error message indicating that the STP transmission cannot proceed.

Renew the credential using the steps above and then relink it in JobBag to resolve the issue.
