Retrieve Employee Tax and Super Information from the ATO
You can now electronically retrieve a new employee's tax and superannuation information directly from the ATO using their my Gov-submitted employment form. This process ensures accuracy and simplifies on boarding for both employers and employees.
📄 About the New Process
- Employees must complete their New Employment Form via myGov.
- A PDF copy of the completed form, including an Event ID, should be provided to the employer.
- This Event ID is used in JobBag to retrieve the employee’s tax and super info from the ATO.
Note: The paper version of the TFN Declaration is being phased out and removed from the ATO website.
🔁 How to Retrieve Tax & Super Information from the ATO
Step 1: Add a New Tax Event
Go to the Employment / PAYG tab.
Click Add New Tax Event.
Enter the Event ID provided by the employee and click Save.
- The event will save with a status of NEW.
Step 2: Retrieve the Tax Information
- Navigate to: Payroll > Single Touch Payroll > TFN Declarations > Get TFN data from myGov
- The SBR File will show a status of New.
- Click Submit to ATO and enter your M2M password.
- The status will now show as Sent to ATO.
- Click Get Update from ATO to retrieve the result.
- The status will now show as Accepted
Step 3: Create TFN Record
- Once the file is Accepted, you can proceed to Create TFN.
- A confirmation message will appear to confirm the TFN record has been created.
✅ Check Tax Event Status
After the TFN record is created:
Go back to the Employment / PAYG tab.
The Tax Event status should now show as:
- Status: Completed
- Edit Status: Received
You can now verify that the correct PAYG withholding has been applied for the employee.
