Payroll Mapping
Payroll Mapping
Correct payroll mapping ensures that all payroll transactions in JobBag post to the right accounts, comply with ATO Single Touch Payroll (STP) requirements, and produce accurate financial reporting.
There are three key areas that must be reviewed and mapped before processing payroll:
- Payroll Kinds Mapping – Expense account kinds/items such as ordinary time earnings, leave, superannuation, allowances, deductions, and terminations
- SBR (STP) Mapping – Mapping payroll kinds to ATO-approved STP reporting categories
- Control Accounts Mapping – Liability accounts such as PAYG, superannuation payable, and payroll clearing
Important: Before mapping, ensure all relevant general ledger accounts have been created in the Chart of Accounts.
1. Map Payroll Kinds (Expense Accounts)
Payroll kinds represent expense categories used in payroll processing. JobBag includes a default set of kinds such as:
- Ordinary Time Earnings
- Superannuation
- Leave types
- Allowances
- Deductions
- Termination kinds/items
You may:
- Create additional payroll kinds as required
- Mark unused payroll kinds as inactive
- Map kinds by department or without department
Each kind must be linked to the correct expense account in your chart of accounts.
A list of default kinds and an example of mapping can be included if needed.
2. Control Accounts (Liability Accounts)
Control accounts are liability accounts used to track amounts owed, such as:
- PAYG Withholding (accrued and paid)
- Payroll Clearing
- Superannuation Liability
- Salary Sacrifice Liability
Before mapping:
Navigate to:
Ledger > Chart of Accounts > Settings
Create or confirm the required liability accounts.
Once created, these accounts can be mapped in payroll configuration.
3. SBR Mapping (STP Mapping)
SBR mapping ensures that payroll data meets ATO Single Touch Payroll reporting standards.
Navigate to:
File > Configuration > Payroll > SBR Mapping
or
Payroll > Single Touch Payroll > Map Kinds
Default SBR mappings (mandatory)
- Ordinary Hours
- Superannuation
- Superannuation Sacrifice
- Salary
- PAYG Accrued
- PAYG Paid
- Leave categories (annual leave, personal leave, etc.)
Other SBR mappings (only if used)
These categories only require mapping when applicable:
- Allowances
- Deductions
- Overtime
- Lump Sum Payments
- ETPs (Employment Termination Payments)
Each payroll kind must be linked to the correct ATO reporting category.
