Payroll Headers

When on boarding an employee, freelancer, performing artist, non-performing artist, or when entering into a Voluntary Agreement, you must first create a Payroll Header.

The payroll header generates a unique payroll ID for the individual/business based on their address book type.


Payroll Headers are located in the Employment / PAYG tab on the individual/business Address Book record.

Once the payroll header is created, you can proceed to enter employment and tax information.


Record Type

Select the correct Record Type based on the individual’s role or classification:

Employee

Use when the address book entry is an Employee.

Performing Artist

Use when the address book entry is a Performing Artist.

Freelancer / Non-Performing Artist

Use for Freelancers and Non-Performing Artists.

Voluntary PAYG

Use when establishing a Voluntary PAYG Withholding Agreement with:

  • Freelancers
  • Non-Performing Artists
  • Suppliers

Start Date

You must report the employee’s start date when they commence employment (required for STP reporting).


End Date

You must report the employee’s end date when they leave.


Reason for Leave (Cessation Reason)

When lodging a cessation event in STP, you must include an ATO-approved cessation reason:

Voluntary Cessation (V)

Resignation, retirement, personal or domestic reasons, or abandonment of employment.

Ill Health (I)

Resignation due to medical condition preventing continued employment.

Deceased (D)

The employee has passed away.

Redundancy (R)

Employer-initiated termination due to redundancy (genuine or non-genuine) or approved early retirement.

Dismissal (F)

Employer-initiated termination due to misconduct, poor performance, or inability to perform required work.

Contract Cessation (C)

End of contract, task completion, end of seasonal work, or ceasing casuals no longer required.

Transfer (T)

Administrative transfer such as moving employees between payroll systems, transfer of business, outsourcing, or government machinery transfers.
