Address Book Detail Types

Use these Detail Types to create custom fields for your Address Book. Define the type of field and when it is used.

To access the Detail Types window, follow this path from the File menu:

The field types are:

  • General Purpose value - this is a field that can have both letters and numbers in it.
  • Telephone number - this field can only have numbers in it.
  • Email - this field is designed to have an email address.
  • URL - this is a field for recording a web address.

You can limit when fields are to be used, for example you can say that a Personal email address is only used for employees. Other phone numbers can be used for both companies and contacts.

You can also define if there can be multiple entries of this field type - meaning you can have multiphone numbers for example.

Some information is highly personal and sensitive, so you can encrypt the data so that it can’t be seen unless extracted in an authorised way.

Show in browse window means the field will be displayed in the Address Book Browse window. If not checked, you will only see the information when you edit the Address Book entry.

There are a number of pre-existing types already in your database, explore these to see the various ways you can configure fields to suit your needs:
